Petit Squale FAQ
Some frequent questions received in my mailbox:
Q: why do you need a switch for transmit/receive operations?
A: the PS (Petit Squale) uses a RIT to make an audio frequency of the station you receive of about 600 Hz. If the receiver is in the same frequency than the transmitter, you won't hear antthing. The switch is to RIT switch. Note you could RF sense the transmission and use a small relay but we will breach the 10 euros goal.
Q: How to reduce the RF power?
A: Use a 2N2222 in place of the 2N3866 or reduce the power supply voltage. The PS works well with a 9V battery.
Q: how to increase the RF power?
A: you can use a power amplifier to boost the PS signal but there is no interest here. Consider building a transceiver which can deliver more power.
Q: are you selling kits?
A: no. The goal here is to train new builder. As you will have to learn a lot of things (build CI, toroid, etc.) you must find an elmer prior to start building. He will explain you how the PS works and give you a hand during construction.
Q: Hey! it looks like a Pixie
A: Yes it is. It was designed from schematics published by many QRP groups as the G-QRP-club or some Japanese QRP builders (e.g. for the super-VXO).
